May 2016 Prez letter
I think all will agree that Spring is here. It’s a great season for hiking, biking, golf and outdoor dining when heaters are available. Most indoor tennis seasons, like ours, end at the beginning of May. Also, on May 1, many of our tennis players head to Hilton Head for a week of fun, learning, and competition.
Those following the enclosed activities season will know about biking the Chester Valley trail, dining at Alfredo’s and Teikoku, and the Bargain foreign wine event. Then there is the opportunity to dress up for our Kentucky Derby Party on May 8. Look also for details on a pool party, an evening along the River, and other early summer activities.
Many of us enjoy the 2nd Friday and last Wednesday Happy Hour get-togethers. These are at Avenue Café, Villanova; and 333 Belrose in Radnor. One of these will shift to the outdoor deck at The Desmond when it opens – look for that announcement.
One major fall trip is still accepting reservations – that is the French river cruise through the wine regions.
I also want to mention plans for 2017 ski trips. We have accepted a proposal for the late February trip to Steamboat. We will fly to Denver and bus to our new condo accommodations at the mountain village. The cost will be under $1700, which will include lift tickets and a credit toward food on the Mountain. Our members will also receive details on a trip to Beaver Creek in early February, lead by the Tiroler Ski club.
We are meeting with resorts and tour operators to select the 2017 New England ski destination. Your survey responses say that cross country ski availability and high quality food are very important, while our downhill skiers liked the absence of lift lines on weekdays. For European travel, we plan to help interested members find other members interested in small group travel.
It’s always a good time to introduce friends to the club so they can join the fun. With no membership meetings until Fall, I look forward to seeing all of you at upcoming events.
